2005 saw the birth of Shipwrecked. Organized by the Ship's Inn, this surely was to be the most exciting event to hit the Island for years and definitely the best thing to happen for workers. These trips consisted of live DJ sets by all new up and coming Ibiza DJ's ( watch this space! ). Last year, The Ship Hosted 4 Shipwrecked, The first one set sail from San Antonio Harbor at 2pm, the others were to be Shipwrecked sunrise parties, setting sail at 6am, perfect for all workers! Let battle commence at sea! It's now 2008 and Shipwrecked is still going strong.

Each party themed, the first was to be Pirate fancy dress then Hippy Chic and Flower Power, finally, pyjama party. As you can imaging, these boat trips consisted of absolute chaos and madness, hence moving them to 6am, giving the workers time to recover during the day, before work, although we are sure there were a few job casualties, as you can imaging! Each party has a different theme, make sure you dress up when you join us.

After the first Shipwrecked, this party became the talk of the town, amongst  all the workers, then it was a case of pre booking your tickets for the next trip, not to miss out. In the Summer of 2008, Shipwrecked has been compared to Space Closing, we think it successfully made it's mark on the Island.

Despite many popular mythical preconceptions, this is actually a working break in Ibiza, so what better way to get a vibe for what the workers of Ibiza live and breathe by dropping in at the local job centre otherwise known as The Ship (a workers bar situated at the top of San Antonio's West End), to have a beer with the friendly manager, Dexter..
He fills us in on the infamous Shipwrecked Workers Boat Party, run by monthly for 2008.  Gracing the specially tuned White Island Sound System will be Manumission and Bar M residents the Dirty Rotten DJs, consisting of Northern Monkey & Shminky to supply some quality house grooves, “we’re sold, say no more – we’ll review it!” I promptly volunteered.
The day of the boat party quickly comes round and the hype amongst the workers couldn’t have been better, mainly down to Dexter’s superb promotion pitch and of course, the mention of the Pirate Punch won them over.  One hundred plus pirates and cabin boys and girls gathered eagerly at The Ship awaiting the signal.  Fights broke out while the rowdy plastic sword donning Pirates practised there ‘killer’ moves.  The bells ring and we’re ordered to walk down to the boat, or rather Ship, en route the make-up wearing crowds cheer and shout as we proudly march through the West End strip.

As the boat departs San Antonio port, we grab some drinks and head for a less crowded spot on the lower deck, outside at the front in the blaring sunshine heat. The quality house music is pumping, the boat is swaying through the tranquil sea, the sun scorching down - wow what a feeling!  It feels like the magic of music and expression has reached a whole other level.  Partying on dry land may never be the same again… After a 45 minutes fairly smooth ride we moor in the bay a few hundreds yards from an enormous yellow villa owned by Spain's answer to John Travolter, Mr Enrique Englesias, right next door to the much smaller (although more talented) artist villa of Mauro Picotto.
Just as the anchor drops, top PR kid Johnny Bell (with his duck / parrot impersonator stuck to his shoulder) walks, or rather runs off the imaginary plank off the top deck! Cheers and laughter scream out as pirates-a-plenty follow suit, one hairy ship-mate Marni, jumps off in only his bathing suit – Bad Boy!  Earning himself a compilation mix CD courtesy of the crew, who had previously announced the most naked people get, win the few promo copies they have left.  Ladies grin knowingly reaching round to undo their bra-type swimming tops, the guys grin even wider when the goods are revealed… We all love a bit nakedness.
Tidy's stilt walkers Phil and Bixie (just good friends) are dancing away above our heads, complimenting the other gorgeous dancers onboard.  The tunes are incredible, every track a winner and a perfect summer-time anthem, with the crowds downing the Pirate Punch, it was eye-patches and hats off to the DJs and Promoters.

I take un-willing responsibility for a young ladies (plastic) sword while she swims about, entertaining the jelly-fish bellow… Properly tooled up we chill on the lower deck, after topping up the tan perhaps foolishly without protection I managed to blag the use of Jo’s sun-cream (who shares my birthplace of Hull ).  As I was getting all greased up I was spreading the lotion on my lobster legs and a lovely young lady comes up and starts helping me rub it in? Wow! She continues by saying “I’m a Beauty Therapist”, “No shit!” I reply as she proceeds to giving me a back massage whilst oiling my back simultaneously?!?! What the feeeek? I don’t even know the girls name yet? I LOVE IBIZA! Thank you whatever your name was, I was, quite literally, touched x
Living the dream we invested 10€ in a bottle of bubbly – 10€ if you please? Bargain of the century.  We meet the lovely Alex & Tiggy, Tiggy a ‘dancer’ at Temptations and Alex a snowboarding/sound engineering/DJ type bum (painted with gold body paint to assist in his treasure suit). Brad the northern PR rep, Jo (from Hull), Mikee (Come Smell Us), Stevo & Jevan from North Hants all smoking and drinking away – living the high life on the Mediterranean seas?
Someone points out Mambo and the Sunset Strip port-side bound (ooh get me) meaning only one thing, we were very close to the end of this particular mission, hopefully only to commence on other… I wished this party would never end, or at least be available every day of the week!
We depart saying our hasta luego (see you soon) to the apt soundtrack of "Rock The Boat", and trot off to Mikee’s for a heavy blazing session, what an amazing day.  Mine and Shipwrecked’s maiden voyage was a rip-roaring success, fantastic tunes provided by the Dirty Rotten DJs, amazing company - I left feeling I gained 30 new best friends..
If I could be permanently based here in Ibiza and attend a Shipwrecked Boat Party once a week I would need nothing else in life to make me happy... They are 'the new way'.
